A mud kitchen has many benefits for children and their development: children improve their fine motor skills by grasping, tilting and shaping different natural materials. They develop a deeper understanding of their environment and at the same time train their cognitive and language skills.

The sensory experience of mud kitchens is now embedded in innovative educational concepts. This shows that mud kitchens are much more than just a toy.

Here are some ideas of what you can do with the mud kitchen:

  • Muddling with different materials from the garden (earth, sand, water, grass, leaves, stones,...)
  • Prepare imaginary dishes using natural ingredients - the recipes can be drawn or written down before or after.
  • Sow and transplant flowers and watch them grow.
  • Brewing potions, also with natural ingredients from the garden or the cupboard, which can be named as you wish.
  • Botany: Look closely at flowers, herbs or leaves, squeeze them, trace them, look them up in books. Can also be transferred to the magical world (with fantasy names and imaginary effects of herbs/plants).
  • Collect treasures from nature, e.g. in an egg carton (kill germs in the oven beforehand) - with or without a specific search task. The treasures can then be named, examined under a magnifying glass and/or squeezed.
