Scratch Art

Kids love scratch pictures! The great thing is that they don't know whats underneath the black layer. My suggestion - I don't show my kids the box before I start. That way, they have no idea what the designs are and they get super excited about scratching.

What are scratch pictures? Children use a wooden scraper to scratch off the black layer on the paper to create colourful pictures. The children can scratch away the black layer without much effort. If you forget the wooden scraper, a fingernail will do. Please note - scratching will make dirt. I prefer to work with a base (e.g. newspaper) on the table. This saves cleaning and the newspaper can be thrown away when you are finished. Scratch pictures are a great alternative to the classic colouring book.

Scratchboard sets make great souvenirs or small gifts for childrens birthday parties or school presents. As well as being a great creative activity, scratching pictures can also be used to develop childrens fine motor skills. The wooden scraper allows little artists to practise their pencil grip. At the same time, it encourages imagination and concentration. The beautiful scratching sets at My Shiny Shop are from the family brand Crocodile Creek and are just waiting to be discovered. The special thing about their creative scratching pictures is the glitter look. There are many different designs to choose from!
